REVIEW: Eagle Eye (2008)
September 29th 2008 07:38
This film, starring Shia LaBeouf and Michelle Monaghan, deserves to be a hit. It is a great film. I went into the cinema thinking this is going to be a replica of Enemy of the State. And while it shared some similar ideas, I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. Constant explosions and fast-paced action as well as frantic car chases, with the message of not placing too much reliance on technology make this film a gem.
On the acting side of the movie, Shia LaBeouf confirms his status as the next huge big thing. His role as a deadbeat twin who has no idea what is going on is very believable. Michelle Monaghan's performance as a worried mother doing what she can to save her child is also very good. The rest of the actors in this movie seem to take a back seat to these two, although there is good support from Billy Bob Thornton, Rosario Dawson and Michael Chiklis.
The only thing I didn't really like about this film was that I could tell what was going to happen next for most of it. But the action scenes more than make up for it. The intensity of the action just grabs you and doesn’t let go for the whole movie.
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The action is brilliant, the acting great, the script was good enough. And if you’re reading this thinking, “it sounds like a guy’s movie”, you’re probably right, but for some reason the action is not overly overpowering for the girls. Overall I would give this movie 4 out of 5 stars. I highly recommend it.
